Graduation Speech

Here we are… 2020 almost done. We made it! It was a year of 12 months, but one felt like 100 days. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. But even the worst of you made the best of it. Thank God we made it!  However, we still have a couple of weeks left, so we never know…I would give all my fame for a pot of ale, and safety. Jokes aside, you should be proud you made it!

The good news, we made it! 2021 will be a year of changes, possibilities, hope.  Never in life, we imagined we could live such a situation that could approach our genuine desire to rebuild the concept of education. And here we are, co-building a new concept of teaching and learning along with this worldwide disease that will not stop our willingness to continue along the way.

In these times of rapid communication, it is sometimes wise to pause and think before responding, as a generation you have certainly demonstrated the ability to pause. We can not be afraid of changing our practices in order to generate a greater impact on our students. We have to continue challenging our own practices. We must find new ways in which to secure democracy for the future.

Trust yourself! Be who you are! You are a warrior who never ever surrenders. Do not betray yourself and your principles! Keep faithful to your beliefs! Let’s celebrate the small wins!

We brought together teachers from all over Latin America who are committed to returning to a better normal post-COVID. Your shrewdness and remarkable creativity have led to such innovative ideas!  I am proud of what I’ve achieved so far and prouder of what I’m trying every day. I believe you have finally discovered how to change schools forever! You will come back to a new normal where teachers will be rewarded for life!

It is often said that we need to learn to walk before we can run and I know that you leave us today at least with the ability to crawl, albeit sideways and somewhat crab-like. The question is not whether or not it can be done, it is whether or not you choose to do it. Your insight and ideas have been enlightening and we are now better prepared to make an impact in education.

They say I am a dreamer but I am not the only one. It´s not as if this speech was written by AI, that would be ridiculous. What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

The never-ending year is finally over. Everything will be ok.  Thanks for all for the effort provided and the fun and interesting moments we shared together. We learnt a lot from each other. Thanks!  Latin America will never be the same after the LearnFest.Smile frequently. May the force be with you. Thank God these extra zoom sessions are over
